Music and the police

No I am not referring to the band. I am referring to local law enforcement. Tuesday is practice night for one of the bands my husband is in. This band practices in my garage. They do get loud from time to time, but that’s the perspective of the woman who’s sitting right on the other side of the wall. If I usually watch a tv show and have the volume on 30 then on practice nights the volume is between 35-45. I have gone outside and walked in the three possible directions from my house, and while the music is audible it’s not by any means deafeningly loud. Three of the four band members live within one block of here, so all the neighbors know the guys. Every once in a while, like tonight, a particular neighbor decides to call the police. Now I ask you, why does a person call the police when they could just come to the door and ask for it to be turned down. If asked to lower the volume the guys would. We wouldn’t be offended. I just don’t understand this. We don’t know who the neighbor is but we know they’re a coward. If they weren’t, they’d just come to the door. The officer tonight was really nice. He said it sounded pretty good but since someone called he had to come out. It’s not that they were breaking a noise ordinance, it’s the nuisance law which can be applied at any time of day. He left, the guys are playing again. Yes they turned it down some. I wonder if the caller is Mr Motorcycle from two doors down. He revs his bike for two-three hours at a time, which is annoying.
