Is my son ready for romance?

My son informed me that he wants to ask a girl in his class out. He wants to take her to a movie this weekend. When I informed him he could only take her to pG-13 or lower he was less than thrilled. He told me his friend took a girl to an R rated movie and that it was good for his friend because the girl was scared and holding on to the boy the whole time. There was nothing PG-13 or lower that my son wanted to see so I suggested looking what’s playing next weekend and that way he’d be asking her some time in advance. He said no he didn’t want to ask her that far advance. I explained the risk of asking someone to do something one day before is that they may have unbreakable plans. He balked and said he wouldn’t ask before Wednesday. I don’t know why. Ten minutes later he came out because he saw a new movie trailer on tv and wanted to know when that date was because he wants to go see the movie. It’s next weekend. Maybe he’ll ask her tomorrow.
