I don’t really like my dentist so I’d rather not go.
I have dental insurance through my work. I chose the plan we’re on because everything is covered at 100%. But, I am only allowed to go to one specific dental group. I don’t like the whole system they have there. After my root planing experience a couple of months ago, I’m in no rush to go back. So, when I developed sore gums that bled a little yesterday, I did not rush to call them.
I remember the first time I got a root planing was about fifteen years ago. After it was finished my teeth were very sensitive, particularly to cold. I tried using a well known sensitive teeth toothpaste as the dentist suggested, but it didn’t help. To avoid the discomfort I had when I drank really cold drinks I started drinking through a straw. The feeling I had in my gums yesterday was not entirely different, so I was a little worried.
A couple of weeks ago I signed up to review a new toothpaste called Biotene. Oddly enough, by some bizarre coincidence the sample arrived late yesterday morning. I decided then was the perfect time for me to try it. It’s called a paste, but it’s appearance on the brush before using is little more liquidy than a paste.
I brushed my teeth using it, and noticed it had a thinner consistency when brushing in comparison to a regular gel or toothpaste. I’m thinking that was because the sensitive toothpaste included Biotene’s exclusive Enzyme LP3 Complex which is used for treating dry mouth. It had a sweet, mild minty flavor that wasn’t bad. I paid extra attention where I had the soreness in my lower gums, and even tried another brushing technique I learned along time ago from a friend that had severe gum problems. I rinsed and was finished. The biggest difference I noticed was that my mouth seemed to be more moist than usual. Last night before going to bed I brushed again. My gums didn’t seem as tender and didn’t bleed. At that moment I didn’t really think much of that.
This morning when I got up and brushed my gums again didn’t bleed. The soreness in my gums was much less today than yesterday. I’m going to keep using it, because it’s unlikely that it’s mere coincidence that the soreness in my gums isn’t as bad.
