How will we pay for college?
First semester progress reports came home this week. My older son didn’t do that badly but it was not his best. He has an 89.4 average in science and an 89.0 average in math. He has now learned how averages work - how a 70 will pull down the 93, 95 and 100s that he worked hard for. He was not given an average in social studies or language arts, just comments that he works at his grade level and that his work is not always even. He got an A+ on his woodshop project. Now that he’s in middle school, he’s starting to learn more about work ethic, and I believe he is starting to consider careers. He’s said he wants a good job and to make good money. We have tried to teach him that education is important and necessary to get a good job. My husband and I are just average people that want our children to do better and have more, like so many other parents. I myself do not have a college degree. I did start college and have some credits but didn’t finish. Now that I am old enough to want to finish we don’t have the money. I may have found a way to beat that excuse. Today I learned of a website that offers information on nothing but college scholarships and grants. Scholarships.com educates about the different types of programs, eligibility and financial need. There is a database of scholarships and grants that can be sorted by deadline, amount and relevancy. The site has an extensive database of schools allowing search by name, location, tuition and type of school. Schools included offer details such as enrollment and financial aid statistics. This site is a great tool for any student considering education beyond high school.

We bribe our kids with money. It works. They are both good students but now they are better! The 15 year old went form just barely 95 to 96,97,98,99 semester averages! The youngest 13, went from honors, around the low 90’s with an occasional 95 to all honors. So try money for grades!
BTW God love ya, TWO bands!?
Ours are on a hiatus in someone else’s garage until it gets really cold.
This year is the first year our older son has expressed any pride in his grades. He’s a very bright child that has always pulled solid b’s with little or no effort. He was so upset the one 70 brought his average down, I couldn’t believe it.
