How do you feel about fundraisers?
Tell the truth. Do you cringe when someone asks you to buy something from a school fundraiser? I often do, and here’s why. I don’t want to spend my hard earned money on over priced food or gift wrap. I’d rather buy things that support and promote the organization I’m being asked to help support. I’m a member of three PTAs and recently when one of the PTAs asked for suggestions for fund raisers, I suggested custom silicone bracelets. They’d look nice and could carry all sorts of messages to promote the organization. ARC Marketing carries not only the exact type of bracelets I was referring to, but they also carry custom car magnets, which I had also suggested. Both of these items would last a whole lot longer than food or gift wrap, and would help promote the organization. Wouldn’t that make for a better fund raiser? I think so. I think PTAs and sports teams would have a more successful fundraiser by offering these items. I think that adults would be more likely to buy. I think students themselves would buy, perhaps even give them as little gifts. The customization would enable the organization to actually send a message or make a point. If you’re planning a fundraiser, take a look at these items and give it some thought.

I have mixed feelings because EVERYONE is having a fundraiser (which I understand is needed) BUT, with all the bracelets and car magnets being purchased, they are the same as gift wrap and food, it’s a fundraiser, and how much does that person really know about what the “cause” is for. Have you ever seen the number of car magnets on cars. Some cars have up to 10-15 magnets, and that person who purchased them, do they really believe in all those causes or do they donate because they are cheap (or reasonable). I have done fundraising for 35 years and I think organizations forget about educating people and recruiting people to get the word out about “their cause”. Bracelets and magnets become fashionwear. We need to find a way of educate and not feed or dress people for a couple of bucks or more, what will they remember after making a donation.
I generally only buy fund raising stuff from people who buy fund raising stuff from me.
I don’t ask people with children in the same school to buy fund raisers, because parents always buy from their kids first, as it should be.
I don’t mind an occasional fundraiser, but I wish they’d do something like bracelets for people who use their head like me. Why would I spend $5-$10 on less wrapping paper than I can get at Walmart for $3? I might be fundraising for them but for me it’s throwing money I work very hard for away.
