Dodge Announces Heritage-inspired Color Names And Paint Hues for 2017

I have wondered how car manufacturers come up with the names of their colors since I bought my Mustang back in 1988. When Dodge released their list of colors for the 2017 models a few days ago, I got a glimpse into the reasoning behind their choices.

Like the Top Banana, HEMI Orange and Panther Pink exterior colors originating from Dodge during the muscle-car era that we’re already familiar with, Dodge has dug deep once again to revive its bold paint naming strategy for 201. The new pallet of names further builds on the brand’s lexicon within automotive enthusiasts. Green Go and Yellow Jacket join the legacy of the brand’s limited-production hues such as Plum Crazy, Sublime and Go Mango, appealing to the most hardcore Dodge fans and enthusiasts.

“Our heritage-inspired paint names highlight how the Dodge brand attitude permeates through everything we do, even a simple detail like a color name,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands, Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat – FCA North America. “For Dodge, the heritage-inspired names are more than just catchy ways to callout our paint – these names resonate with our customers, speaking to their personality, their car passion and their love of their Dodge.”

  1. What awesome new color selections! I have been eyeing the new Durango and would totally select the Granite color if we made the purchase plunge.

  2. I love these new shades! I have a Dodge now but thinking of upgrade. I am feeling the Contusion Blue, blue is my favorite color.

  3. I love these new shades! The Octane Red is especially gorgeous! We’re looking into getting a new, more family-friendly vehicle and my husband and I always disagree on the colors.
