  • Bloopers
  • Deleted Scene

So last night I asked the husband if he wanted to watch a movie with me. He gave his standard answer. “What movie?”. I replied “The new Vince Vaughn movie.” he mumbled something about him knowing Vince Vaughn was funny so sure he’d watch. I specifically didn’t mention to him that this movie had a lot of heart, which I knew because I visited the set while it was being filmed and interviewed some of the cast. Jad I told him that he probably wouldn’t have watched. And so we watched.

Delivery Man is the story of David Woziak, a thirty something guy who works as a delivery man for his family’s meat business. He’s in debt to some bad people and he’s a screw up. His girlfriend, a police officer, has just discovered she is pregnant, and she is very apprehensive that David will be a responsible father. He discovers that he is the biological father of 533 children. This happened because when he was in his early 20s he was a sperm donor, and the fertility clinic considered his samples highly desirable so they gave their clients nothing but his sperm for a year. A large number of the children want to know who their biological father is. David does not want his identity known, when he made the donations he had used the nickname Starbuck. Nevertheless, David is interested in knowing more about his children.

Picking out a few from background files the fertility clinic’s lawyer gave him, he follows them and learns a little about them. There’s a drug addict, a musician, a lifeguard, a basketball player and many, many more. His children are of all nationalities and races, and have many different physical qualities and levels of intelligence. There is even one young man who is in a wheelchair and unable to communicate. As David gets to know his children, David’s girlfriend gets to know David’s family. We learn what he did with all of the money he got from making his donations, and that tells us a lot about who David really is, even though he doesn’t show it.

David mentions to one of the children that even if they don’t find out who their father is they will have found each other. That strikes a chord with the children, who organize a big meetup day. David attends (noone knows who he is yet except one of the children) and really enjoys spending the day with all of them. The case is decided in his favor and Starbucks anonymity is to be preserved. But will the children find out David is their father? I can’t tell you that! There are no spoilers here! You’ll have to watch the movie to find out.

I recommend this movie highly. It’s got a lot of funny moments, and a lot of just “warm and fuzzy nice” moments that will touch your heart. While this PG-13 movie is all about family – having it, wanting it, understand the importance of it – young children will likely not understand the subject material.

Here are some clips.

“Yo No Soy David Wozniak”

“Do You Have a Stroller for 533 Children?”

“Reactivate My License”

“I Don’t Have Mental Problems”

“Father On Probation”

Bonus Clip: Deleted Scene

SYNOPSIS – From the world of “Peter Pan” comes “The Pirate Fairy,” a swashbuckling new adventure about Zarina (voice of Christina Hendricks), a smart and ambitious dust-keeper fairy who’s captivated by Blue Pixie Dust and its endless possibilities. When Zarina’s wild ideas get her into trouble, she flees Pixie Hollow and joins forces with the scheming pirates of Skull Rock, who make her captain of their ship. Tinker Bell (voice of Mae Whitman) and her friends must embark on an epic adventure to find Zarina, and together they go sword-to-sword with the band of pirates led by a cabin boy named James (voice of Tom Hiddleston), who’ll soon be known as Captain Hook himself. With laughter, heart, magic and thrills, “The Pirate Fairy” sets sail April 1, 2014.

Disney The Pirate Fairy Nyc Luncheon

A little over a week ago I had the good fortune to be able to go into New York City to have lunch and participate in a roundtable discussion with Disney The Pirate Fairy producer Jennifer Magee-Cook. Since most, if not all, of us had seen the movie, it was a treat to be able to get some quality one on one time with one of the women behind the movie.

The most commonly asked questions all had to do with the actual making of the movie. They worked long and hard in group meetings to decide what the storyline would be. They made extensive use of the Disney Animation Library to envision both the forward and backward stories, as well as locations and character appearance. The feeling behind this, and other Disney projects, is that the “world” of the movie is very important. Folks involved with the movie had to learn about the topics it involved in order to have sufficient knowledge to put together a solid story.

Disney The Pirate Fairy Nyc Luncheon

Pirate scenes in this movie were obviously key. A pirate expert was hired. The crew visited a pirate ship in order to make sure pirate scenes were as authentic as possible. The biggest challenge with the scenes with pirates and on the pirate ship was scale. Keeping 6 inch fairies in proper scale to life size real men was a challenge. To meet the challenge, they relied on 3D camera images shot with a 3D camera while visiting the pirate ship.

We touched on the subject of the cast. For example, we learned that actor Tom Hiddleston was very passionate about this project. In order to bring some of Hiddleston’s character to the character of James (later known as Captain Hook), the crew relied on voice recordings and live reference recordings. Hiddleston was very animated when recording. The crew was able to transer some of that to the character of James by watching the live reference recordings so they could observe and use some of Hiddleston’s movements for the James character.

Here’s a clip of Tom Hiddleston recording one of the songs where you can see what I’m referring to.

We learned that a lot of thought went into the fashion of the movie. In Pixie Hollow everything is organic. By leaving Pixie Hollow, Zarina became the first fairy whose costume included man-made materials. Disney worked with designer Christian Siriano to get just the right look.

Disney The Pirate Fairy Nyc Luncheon

The other big topic we discussed was animation. For example, Crocky is a young Tic Toc Croc. They knew that they wanted to connect Crocky with the original Tic Toc Croc we all know from Peter Pan, but they wanted him to be cute. Crocky was intentionally designed to move like a baby waddling in a diaper. In the end they kept the teeth of the original Croc and altered everything else.

Disney The Pirate Fairy Nyc Luncheon

By the way. Ever wonder how Tic Toc Croc got that clock inside hi? Here’s how.

I really enjoyed hearing about all of the time, work and energy that went into Disney The Pirate Fairy. I also really enjoyed watching the movie. This is the fifth installment in the Disney Fairies movies collection. It’s a lot of fun. It’s very different from the others in that it introduces the fairies to the pirates, something we know happened because let’s face it, we’ve all seen Peter Pan. Also by involving the pirates not only do we get our conflict of good vs bad, but we also get characters that both girls and boys will enjoy. The color, cast and animation are all spectacular. The positive messages of accepting your mistakes, being a good friend and forgiving are all subtle and well-delivered. This movie is a must have for all Disney fans both young and old.

If you click the picture below you’ll be taken to a neat Pirate Fairy and Peter Pan Infographic.

We’d seen these episodes before. And yet when I put the DVD in my son became transfixed and didn’t budge until the DVD was over. At which point he said “again?”. The Thomas & Friends show may be mainly for children ages 2-6 but we never tire of it here. My son just loves everything about it – the characters, voices, colors, sounds, everything. I like the stories too, they’re nice. The stories always have an underlying lesson to be learned and yet they never come off as preachy. They’re just plain fun. This particular DVD included a poster featuring all of the trains. My son went bananas when he saw it and we had to hang it immediately. The bonus games are also fun. My son loves them and has no problem playing them independently. Thomas and Friends: Railway Mischief is a must have for all Thomas fans.

He sings a sad little song that really tugs at the heartstrings, one that will surely hit home with anyone who’s ever wondered it. Riff learns that it isn’t the actual gift that counts as much as the thought behind it. It’s a great positive lesson that everyone, children and adult, should learn early and remember.

Fairway Solitaire Blast – New Game That’s A Blast To Play Alone Or With Friends #FSBlast

This is a sponsored post. Some information on the game was provided by Big Fish Games. Please note that, as always, any personal opinions reflected in this post are my own and have not been influenced by the sponsor or compensation received in any way.

I’ve been around personal computers pretty much since they started becoming a household thing. My family’s first computer was a Mac Plus. Yeah, I’m old. I even sold computers for over ten years. I’m not at all afraid of them, I love them and all things tech. If you’re like me, one of the first things you did when you first learned how to use a computer was play a game of solitaire. It came installed on computers for years. It may still, I’m not sure. Anyone? Anyway.

In the beginning solitaire was plain old solitaire. Green background and a deck of cards. After a while it evolved to different types of solitaire. I enjoyed many, but truly got a kick out of none. Until now. Fairway Solitaire Blast is a real blast.

Fairway Solitaire Blast

Fairway Solitaire Blast is a follow-up to Fairway Solitaire, which is the App Store’s top-grossing Solitaire game. The goal of Fairway Solitaire Blast is to play cards one higher or lower while working to clear all of the cards off the board. Your progress through the game moves you through a golf course. And we all know that no golf course is complete unless it has some challenges, like crab grass and sand traps, right?

Fairway Solitaire Blast

At the beginning of each board you’re given a goal.

Fairway Solitaire Blast

Then you’re given any instructions you may need.

Fairway Solitaire Blast

If you beat the board you move on. If you don’t you can see what goal you missed.

Fairway Solitaire Blast

Fairway Solitaire Blast currently has 90 levels. As you progress through the game the levels get more challenging. And, there are more levels already in development! There are many different challenges, so that each board seems different. If you run out of moves you can draw from the pile. Or, you can use some of the special power-up bonus cards to help you reach your goal or get you out of a bind if you’re stuck. There are different power-ups. Some of them include zapping a bunch of cards, burning some cards, clearing a vertical line, and clearing a horizontal line. Some boards are much easier then other of course. And some are much harder then they look, so be careful where you use your power-ups or you might not have them when you really need them. The fun characters, graphics and animations are all bright and colorful.

For a long time Solitaire was a game that got a bit of a bad rap. Not the game itself that is, just the fact that people played it. I don’t even know how many times I heard things about people so lonely they were stuck home on weekends playing solitaire. Stuff like that. Well, no more. Solitaire is no longer a solitary thing. (Unless you want it to be.)

Fairway Solitaire Blast is a game that can be played with friends. That’s right, with other people! Real people! Just connect the game to your Facebook profile and you can play with your friends! You can watch the leaderboards to see how you’re faring against your friends.

Fairway Solitaire Blast

Here’s the trailer, so you can get a better idea of how the game looks.

Fairway Solitaire Blast was released yesterday. If you’re anything like a good number of my friends, and I bet you are, you have friends wanting to play games with you on the phone. Download Fairway Solitaire Blast today and then invite your friends. You’ll be the trendsetter for finding a fun new game first. And you’ll all have some good old fun without having to guess what something is or how to spell it.

You can keep up with the latest games on the Big Fish Games website, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

What’s your favorite game to play on your phone or tablet? I’d really like to know, so please leave a comment!

SYNOPSIS – Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson bring to life the untold true story about the origins of one of the most treasured Disney classics of all time. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) directs this acclaimed film, which reveals the surprising backstory behind the making of Mary Poppins. Determined to fulfill a promise to his daughters, Walt Disney (Hanks) tries for twenty years to obtain the rights to author P.L. Travers’ (Thompson) beloved book. Armed with his iconic creative vision, Walt pulls out all the stops, but the uncompromising Travers won’t budge. Only when he reaches into his own complicated childhood does Walt discover the truth about the ghosts that haunt Travers, and together, the set Mary Poppins free.

Novak (TV’s The Office), Rachel Griffiths (TV’s Brothers & Sisters) and Kathy Baker (Edward Scissorhands), Saving Mr. Banks was directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, The Rookie), produced by Alison Owen, Ian Collie and Philip Steuer, and written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. ➢ Pam Leaves (Blu-ray & Digital HD) – After yet another disagreement with Walt, Pamela leaves his office and heads for the airport.

I didn’t really know what I’d think of this movie. I adore Disney’s animated movies. But this clearly isn’t one of those. This is a drama. This is the story behind a story. This is how the movie Mary Poppins got made. Saving Mr Banks is the tru story of how Walt Disney convinced the creator of Mary Poppins, author PL Travers, to let him make a movie featuring Mary Poppins.Travers is very attached to the Mary Poppins characer, who was created twenty some years before in one of her books. She is in such bad financial shape that after twenty years of being asked, she finally has to seriously consider Walt Disney’s proposal to turn Mary Poppins into a movie. The movie moves back and forth between Travers childhood (early 1900s) and the weeks she spent in Los Angeles (early 1960s) for scripting and pre-production decisions. She is just bitter and unhappy, and seems content to remain that way. But as the movie progresses her memories of childhood show us why she is that way. The whole story is very powerful. Quite frankly, if you’re looking for sunshine and rainbows and happy stuff like that you won’t find it here. Saving Mr Banks is a sad story, but in a good way, in the way we learn about the people and the movie they finally were able to make together. Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson are absolutely amazing in their roles as Walt Disney and PL Travers. Serious adult topics are shown, as such young children will likely not understand or enjoy the movie. Don’t get me wrong, I totally recommend the movie. But I did have tears in my eyes on more then one occasion.

PS. There are some songs that always stick in your head. You can think you won’t like them but you can’t help but to like them. Let’s Go Fly A Kite is one of those songs. If it doesn’t get you during the movie, be sure not to miss the bonus footage where the cast and crew sing it on the last day of filming.

Here are some clips.

This is a film clip called Call Me Walt.

And this is a film clip called Never Ever Just Mary.

A bonus clip called Nanny Song (a deleted scene)

And one more bonus clip called Pamela Leaves (another deleted scene)

I like Doc McStuffins. It’s just a nice show. I love that theshow both encourges imagination like playing with stuffed animals, but also that it encourages a vision of real work and a place in the world, like being a doctor. Doc’s role model is her Mom, a doctor, and she wants to be like her. Doc plays with her toys and takes care of them, much like you and I did and now our kids do. Her patients all have a minor sickness or illness, there’s no scary disease. But what they do have that’s scary is the common apprehensions that we had and our children now have, things like fear of pain, seeing the doctor, stuff like that. This DVD is terrific for young kids, it’s very positive.

Here’s a film clip called The Doc Mobile.

And another film clip called Stay Calm.

I loved my stuffed animals. As a child I played with them constantly, talking to them, changing their clothes, and of course bringing some to bed with me when it was time to go to sleep. When I moved to New Hampshire for two years one of the few things that I brought with me was two large black trash bags of stuffed animals. I had a number of favorites over the years, but one of my all time faves was a very old Pooh (approximately 1970 if I had to guess) that my Mom gave me and I still have to this day. I still have a good number of them, I just can’t bear to let them go.

Did you (or does your child) play with stuffed animals a lot? I’d really like to know, please leave a comment!

I got a big kick out of Sofia The First: The Floating Palace. I know the show does very well with young girls, but this old girl likes it too. Sofia is a young princess who has the ability to talk to animals if she is wearing her magical amulet. In this movie Sofia helps out Oona, a mermaid. After doing so, Sofia is able to be temporarily turned into a mermaid and can go see the underwater kingdom and make new friends. In typical disney fashion, there is a villain (Cedric disguised as a sea monster) that wants Oona’s enchanted mermaid comb. Mermaids are in peril. A vicious storm endangers Sofia’s whole family. Everyone will have to work together to save both worlds. By that I do mean everyone, there’s a special appearance by Princess Ariel, who we all know and love from The Little Mermaid. I swear I saw flounder in there too! Will everyone be able to get along to fight this fight? You’ll have to watch and see for yourself!  I can say that this might have been my favorite Sofia yet, because it contained the charm of typical Sofia but a bit of the danger and good vs evil of a Disney movie. This movie would be great for all Disney fans.

Here’s a film clip called The Love We Share.

Petbrosia Dog Food

Dobby is almost four months old now, and we’ve had him for about two and a half months. It is unbelievable how fast he is growing. Like babies, his nutritional needs are different now then they will be at other ages. And like people, not everyone eats the same thing.  We’ve been pretty fortunate in that Dobby is not a super fussy eater. Early on he did exhibit a preference to food but we realized it was because he was so young he was having a hard time chewing that particular food. (We tried again a month later and had no issue.) I have seen pet foods broken down into life stages (puppy, adult, senior, etc) but never one that took that even further and accounted for breed, size, activity level and so on. I’d never seen a customizable pet food, until Petbrosia.

Petbrosia makes dog and cat foods. When you order you are asked a number of questions about your pet, including breed, size, weight, health and even allergies. That information is used to determine the right Petbrosia diet for your dog or cat. Once the mix as been determined, petbrosia custom makes your pet’s food,  using the highest quality, all-natural ingredients, grown and raised by farmers across America. The pet food contains no corn, wheat, soy, or by-products.

Petbrosia Dog Food

When your pet food is delivered (yes delivered, no more running to the store) you receive a printout. The printout contains a detailed analysis of the food, including the ingredients, caloric content, recommended feeding instructions and reorder date. If you don’t want to worry about running out of dog food or remembering when to order it, you can choose to go on their auto ship program and shipments will be sent at the intervals you specify.

Petbrosia recommends a process for transitioning from your current pet food to Petbrosia.

Petbrosia Transition

Our transition was uneventful. The dog food consists of small, round pieces. It’s not too hard or too soft. Dobby had no problems chewing it, he eats it right up. I can tell from the sound of the crunch he wouldn’t have had any trouble chewing this even at a younger age. The food does have a very mild smell, but it’s sort of a general “foodish” smell, it doesn’t smell like dog food like some dog foods do.

Petbrosia Dog Food

We as people, most of us anyway, love our pets. We consider them like individual members of our families. It’s great to see a company whose goal is to make a nutritionally complete product that will help our family members thrive.

Here’s a brief video explaining how Petbrosia came to be.
